REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY

What is Massage Therapy ?

By definition:

Massage is the manual manipulation of the superficial and deep layers of connective tissue and joints of the body to develop, maintain or augment physical function and prevent or relieve pain.

Therapists use a variety of light and deep techniques during your treatment to achieve the desired results.

Appropriate home care activities ie. use of heat and/or cold, stretching / strengthening will be given so that the client can take an active role in their rehabilitation.

An on-going treatment plan including home care and frequency of massage therapy treatments will be discussed by you and your massage therapist.

What you can expect during your massage therapy appointment:

We will review your case history and health questionnaire to determine the main issues and, primary focus and goals of your treatment.

If indicated physical assessment testing will be conducted to determine the main structures involved in the issue you are having massage for (a relaxation based treatment usually does not require physical assessment testing).

Your treatment will be based on your goals and physical tests findings.

After the massage has been given we will review the results, and homecare will be given.

An on-going treatment will be suggested and future treatments will be booked.

REIKI

REIKI - pronounced  ray - key - is a system of natural healing that was developed at the end of the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui.

The term Reiki translates to harmonious energy and assists our own healing systems to work to their maximum potential. Reiki helps the recipient revitalize and balance the individual’s personal energy flow which gets depleted from injury and disease and the stress of everyday living.

During a Reiki session the recipient remains fully clothed while lying on a therapy table. The Reiki practitioner gently places her / his hands on the recipient’s body in various locations and channels energy, or Ki, into the recipient.

Reiki promotes a deep sense of peace and relaxation and recipients often report relief of physical ailments and aches and pains. Reiki can help everyone, and its benefits can be far reaching, including the healing of deep-seated emotional injuries.

The amount of healing available is only dependant upon the individual’s intention to heal.

Reiki-ists (those that administer Reiki) are often termed as healers. However this term is a misnomer as only the individual can heal themselves.

Reiki practitioners have received training and attunements. The training and attunements enables the practitioner to channel energy for those wishing Reiki.

Traditionally there are 3 levels to Reiki training.

The first degree attunes the individual the flow of energy, allowing them to use Reiki for their own healing and helping family and friends close to them. At the first degree level practitioners are not generally ready to offer Reiki to the general public.

The second degree attunes the practitioner to a finer degree and once proficient at this level the practitioner may be prepared to offer treatments to the general public.  Learning how to perform distant, or remote Reiki sessions is also taught at the second degree level.

The 3rd degree is the Master / Teacher level and further deepens the practitioner’s ability to perceive and work with Reiki and is the level at which the practitioner may teach and initiate others into the Reiki system. Some non-traditional Reiki pathways have more than 3 levels of classes but the traditional system is taught as 3 distinct levels with the practitioner working at each level for an extended period of time before being fully prepared to move on to the next.

Reiki is beneficial for everyone, whether one desires to follow it as a life pathway providing sessions and teaching others or for those who wish to use Reiki solely to facilitate their own personal growth and healing.

There are no contra-indications to Reiki.

Reiki is a safe treatment for everyone, regardless of current medical conditions.
